Many monsters from the main series have been confirmed to appear in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Instead of catching monsters in battle, you have to go into mini-dungeons called Monster Dens, find an egg, bring it back to town, and use the Kinship Stone to hatch and have the baby imprint onto you. Your role is mainly recruiting Monsties to expand your party and supporting them in battle.Īcquiring Monsties for your party works differently from Pokémon as well. The main games have 14 weapons to choose from, whereas in Monster Hunter Stories 1, you get four - Sword & Shield, Greatsword, Hammer, and Hunting Horn. However, there are two major drawbacks of being a Rider - You are incredibly squishy and have a smaller selection of weapons compared to a Hunter. You can even ride your Monstie to perform over-the-top super moves that deal massive damage called Kinship Attacks. What separates Monster Hunters Stories from Pokémon is that you fight directly alongside your Monstie, aiding them with buffs and healing items. You take turns attacking the monster, using element attacks its weak to to wear them down with status effects. The turn-based combat system of Monster Hunter Stories is reminiscent of Pokémon. You will be traveling across the world, visiting towns filled with colorful characters to stock up on supplies, and taking on quests to explore exotic locales populated with dangerous monsters. The heavier and nicer smelling the egg is, the better your chances are of it having rare genes to make it stronger in battle. It's more likely to awake if you take longer to select an egg. You can snag eggs from under its nose, but if it wakes you might need to defeat it. Sometimes an adult monster will be asleep on the nest.
If a grown monster is in the den, you might need to defeat it before you'll be able to take the egg away. Every monster has a specific pattern and color associated with it and you'll often find more than one egg type in a nest. Entering these locations allows you to find a nest where you can search for eggs. You'll find monster dens scattered throughout the map as you explore.
